Bowling with Monkeys

Today is my son's birthday party. We gave him his choice of themes for the party and he chose bowling. So today we go bowling with about a dozen 7-8 yr old boys. I like bowling. I like my son and his friends. Something tells me I won't like the two together as much as I like them individually. Just the thought of little boys with 8 lb projectiles in their hand and their objective being to knock things over doesn't make me relaxed. Now I'm certain they know the general rules of the game being to hit the pins but they are boys and they will get a pack mentallity ("Lord of the Flies"). Not to mention they will be jacked-up on sugar from the birthday treats of soda and cookie cake! I think I might take my flask along with me just in case. I better go fill it up.

Fiesta Day!

Today is Fiesta Day for my son's class. They've been studying Mexican culture and this is the grand finale. We were reminded via email from the teacher that they had enough chips and salsa but really needed some tacos or burritos and we could send these with our child in the morning. The only problem is that she sent the email at 5:50 pm to my wife's work email (she is also a teacher) and she didn't get it till this morning. I was called at work and told of this catastrophe at 8:30 and I immediately ran out to find a solution to the problem. I quickly realize there's not much in the area of bulk Mexican food to choose from in the frozen food section of Wal-Mart & Brookshire's. My first thought was to find some pre-cooked, heat-and-serve tamales but appearantly they were all sold out. I did find a bag of fairly authentic looking frozen burritos and quickly snatched them up, along with a diet Pepsi, and headed home to cook them (burritos not diet Pepsi).

Hopefully I won't be embarassed by having another parent bring the same thing that I worked so hard to get. Oh well, I'm just glad I don't have to stay there after twenty 7 & 8 year olds eat a Fiesta of Mexican food! Too many fingers to pull!

Hasta La Vista, baby!!

Hockey Night in Forney

My 8 year old son and I went to the Dallas Stars game last night at the AAC. I think he enjoyed it. We went with my step brother, my step father and my nephew. My son ran into a friend in Church last Sunday that told him about the fighting in professional hockey so he was ready to see some. The Stars got out to a quick lead and by the middle of the 3rd period were up 3-0. The play was pretty chippy and the atmosphere was right for the other team to lose their cool and take some revenge by fisticuffs since they couldn't score the normal way. There were a few scrums where a group of players would huddle and talk bad to each other but the refs would not let anything happen. It seems that those scrums were enough though because my son was happy with the outcome. He got to go to a hockey game and stay up late. He fell asleep in the car on the way home and I had to carry him upstairs and put him to bed. This morning we let him sleep in. After I took his sister and her friend to school I woke him up and had him bathe because he said it had been about 4 days since his last one. After he got ready we went to the donut shop for breakfast and then on to school.
