I am going to give serious thought to dis-engaging the camera function on the cell phones that belong to my daughters!

Trashy Ride

As seen in Downtown Cowtown during the four block morning walk from my car to my building.
You might think OSHA would have outlawed this years ago. Or at least make them wear helmets.

Hey, Joe!

There are several stories (lessons) in the Bible that I have probably heard or studied which I don't remember. There is a blog I read everyday of a Pastor of a church in Childress, Tx. It is great for daily reading and insight into the thoughts of a man of that position in life. The post today is a Bible story I don't remember specifically, but it is strong example for all men on how to handle temptation.

Click here to read it and while your there check out the rest of the site. It's worth it!

Inauguration Day

-I don't remember any hype from any previous inaugurations but this one is ridiculous.

-G.W. Bush is either dumb to the criticism of his presidency or is hiding it very well.

-I hope Obama can perform up to his expectations. But the media will cut him down soon enough.

-At work this morning, we were sent an email "reminding" us we are not allowed to stream internet content (audio/video) even if it's CNN's coverage of the inauguration.

-I have a corporate "brain-washing" session from 11:00 until 2:00 so I couldn't illegally stream the inauguration if I wanted to. I might catch it tonight on the news. Or maybe tomorrow. Or the day after. or the day after that.

-There is supposed to be upwards of two million people at the ceremony today. I'm sure this will be the largest crowd to attend an Inauguration, but I wonder if there have been other events that have drawn that big of a crowd? (Million Man March?)

-The largest crowd at an inauguration was in 1965 for LBJ (1.2 million).

-I fear some sort of major negative event will happen during the inauguration.

Video Of The Day: Skillet - Savior

I was inspired to post this video by Denny, who is now drumming for his church band. These guys (Skillet) are also a christian band and they rock, too. I haven't heard too much from them recently but I haven't been paying attention to the scene as much. By the way Denny, their drummer is a chick!

Aging Rock GOD

Do you recognize this aging rock god?

He played a gig this past weekend with his former bass player and a current popular rock band. His former band has been credited with creating the hard rock genre and inspiring legions of musicians. They are rumored to be reuniting and touring soon but they need to find a drummer. (Denny, are you available?)
I will post the answer in the comments later.

MLK Day

Since it's Martin Luther King Day I took some time to read some of his quotes. My favorites a listed below:

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

"Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men."

"The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?""

"The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict."

"The question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be... The nation and the world are in dire need of creative extremists."

"The time is always right to do what is right."

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

"To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing."

Dirk Nowitzki

Just saw a stat on TV that Dirk just passed World B. Free on the NBA all time scorers list. He is now #55 and only 3 spots behind Dr. J. Thought Dr. J should be higher on the list but remembered he was in the ABA for the first part of his career. World B. Free makes me giggle inside.

Lunch at Fox & Hound

Running on empty

Well, I've purchased my new running shoes and I'm ready to hit the pavement. This is gonna be painful! I will update my runs on the chart on the left side of the page. Hopefully, there will be a full nine weeks of the "Couch to 5K" program listed and I can continue with a steady schedule of running workouts afterward. Maybe even a sanctioned road race! I gotta get through nine weeks first!

Run to The Hills!!!

I have decided to once again start a running program.About three years ago, I made the same decision and began a program called "Couch to 5k" from the website www.CoolRunning.com. This link is the schedule for the nine week program that gradually takes you from the couch (a non-runner) to running the equivalent of a 5k race. There is also a podcast here that has the schedule set to music with pace change cues built in. It works great and I will use it again. The first time I tried this I got to week 6 and quit due to knee problems. Hopefully I can make it through the entire program this time and keep up the running long after. You can keep up with my progress with the chart on the left.

The above video is from Iron Maiden (one of my favorite Metal bands of the 80's). If you would like to see them Live, you gotta go to Serbia, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Mexico or various Central and South American countries. ROAD TRIP!!!

Taking stock of my life in the New Year

Every new year the fad is to make a New Year's resolution. I'm not into that crap but I do see the need to change a few things in my life. I have been taking the first two weeks of the new year to do some soul searching and internet research on what I need to do and how I need to do it. I am fairly certain that I have figured it out but until I get things moving it will remain unmentioned. It will involve some aspect each of spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health. Probably the two main focuses will be on spiritual and physical because those are the two that need the most work.

I am CADmonkey!!

cadmonkey - n. [kad-muhng-kee]
1. A whoring draftsman using computer aided design(drafting). "Look at that cad monkey make magic with a mouse!"

2. An employee who does nothing but CAD drafting - all day, every day - for an architectural, landscape architectural, engineering, etc. firm.

3. One who assists a computer aided drafter/deisgner in carrying out mundane and repetative cad related duties such as printing, printer maintenance, and simple text edits.

4. A low level cad person who makes edits with no regard for or knowledge of proper production methods or standards. syn.- cad hack

5. An actual monkey or ape trained to perform simple cad edits and tasks.

"A tourist walked into a pet shop and was looking at the animals on display. While he was there, another customer walked in and said to the shopkeeper, "I'll have an CAD monkey please."

The shopkeeper nodded, went over to a cage at the side of the shop and took out a monkey. He fitted a collar and leash, handed it to the customer, saying, "That'll be $5000." The customer paid and walked out with his monkey.

Startled, the tourist went over to the shopkeeper and said, "That was a very expensive monkey. Most of them are only few hundred dollars. Why did that one cost so much?"

The Shopkeeper answered, "Ah, that monkey can draw in CAD - very fast, clear layouts, no mistakes, well worth the money."

The tourist looked at a monkey in another cage. "That one's even more expensive! $10,000! What does it do?"

"Oh, that one's a Design monkey; it can design systems, layout projects, mark-up drawings, write specifications, some even calculate. All the really useful stuff," said the shopkeeper.

The tourist looked around for a little longer and saw a third monkey in a cage of its own. The price tag around its neck read $50,000. He gasped to the shopkeeper, "That one costs more than all the others put together! What on earth does it do?"

The shopkeeper replied, "Well, I haven't actually seen it do anything, but it says it's an Engineer."

Questions of a Foreign-born Co-worker

Question of the day from "The Guy In The Next Cubicle Over That Is From A Foreign Country":
"Hey, David! What does it mean 'pass the buck'?"
I then tried to explain the best I could but I think he was still confused.
